Photos don’t need a sales pitch. A garage door that hung crooked on Monday and glides quietly on Tuesday tells the story better than we ever could. Below are real repair scenarios we see in Yonkers neighborhoods like Crestwood, Dunwoodie, and Park Hill, from snapped springs to shredded cables. Same street, same door, different outcome. You’ll recognize your own garage in one of these.

Torsion Spring Replacement on a Colonial in Dunwoodie
Photo placeholder: Broken torsion spring above a closed garage door, coil visibly separated. After photo pending.
The homeowner called after the door wouldn’t lift past waist height. The torsion spring, the horizontal coil above the door that stores the lifting energy, had snapped in half after years of daily cycling. We replaced both springs because when one fails, the other is usually weeks behind it. The result: the door opens with two fingers on the handle instead of a full-body shove.
Cable Repair Where the Door Hung at a Dead Angle
Photo placeholder: Garage door tilted hard to the left, cable dangling off the drum on the right side. After photo pending.
A snapped cable dropped one side of this two-car door onto the concrete, leaving it jammed at a forty-degree angle with the other side still hooked. The homeowner had tried to force it shut with the opener, which stripped the chain and made a rough situation worse. We replaced both cables, re-leveled the door, and reset the opener carriage. Now it travels up and down with zero drift, straight as a chalk line.
Off-Track Roller Restoration in Park Hill
Photo placeholder: Roller sitting outside the vertical track, door panel bowed inward from pressure. After photo pending.
The door had jumped its track after a roller bearing seized up, leaving two panels pressing against the interior wall of the garage. We pulled the door back into position, swapped in new nylon rollers, and tightened the track brackets that had worked loose. Quiet enough now that the homeowner says she can hear the furnace kick on from inside the house, which is either a compliment or a complaint about her furnace.
Opener Misalignment on a Side Entry in Crestwood
Photo placeholder: Opener arm disconnected from the door bracket, door manually lashed shut with a ratchet strap. After photo pending.
The automatic opener had ripped its arm clean off the door bracket, leaving the homeowner to close the door by hand with a strap he found in his truck. The opener itself was fine. The root problem was a door that had gone out of balance after a spring lost tension, making the opener work against dead weight. We re-tensioned the spring, mounted a fresh bracket, and reconnected the arm. The opener now opens and closes the door at the speed it was designed for.
Spring Failure on a Wood Overlay Door Near Tibbetts Brook Park
Photo placeholder: Wood composite door resting on the garage floor, both springs visibly unwound above it. After photo pending.
Heavy wood doors murder springs faster than steel ones, and this one had been warning the owner for months with a bang every time the door closed. Both springs unwound completely and the full weight came down onto the floor. We installed a pair of high-cycle springs rated for double the standard lifespan. The door lifts smooth and quiet now, and that banging noise in the middle of the night is gone for good.
Track Alignment After a Pull-Through in South Yonkers
Photo placeholder: Car bumper mark on the bottom panel, track bent outward near the floor, door frozen halfway up. After photo pending.
A driver pulled in before the door had fully lifted, catching the bottom edge with a roof rack. The impact bent both vertical tracks and knocked the bottom panel off its hinges. We straightened the tracks, re-seated the rollers, and replaced the hinges that had sheared. Panel work can be repaired this far from the corner. If it had been closer to the center, the customer would have been looking at a full panel replacement, which is a different conversation.
